Commercial Gate Automation with Integrated Access Control in Alton
A complete gate automation and intercom solution — designed, installed, and commissioned by ADP Security Systems at a commercial premises in Alton, Hampshire.
The Project
ADP Security Systems was recently commissioned to design and install a fully automated gate entry system at a commercial premises in Alton, Hampshire. The client required a solution that would control vehicle access to the site while providing seamless communication between visitors and staff inside the building.
As with every ADP project, we managed the entire process from start to finish — from initial site survey and system design through to groundworks, installation, and final commissioning.
CAME Gate Automation

The pair of commercial gates were fitted with CAME automation — one of the industry’s most trusted names in gate technology. CAME systems are renowned for their reliability, quiet operation, and durability in demanding commercial environments, making them an ideal choice for a site that requires consistent, day-in, day-out performance.
Our engineer installing the CAME automation mechanism, ensuring precise alignment and smooth operation of the sliding gate.

Paxton Intercom System
To manage visitor access, we installed a Paxton intercom system using two Paxton VR surface-mount panels, each fitted with a rain hood for weather protection. The intercom panels were mounted on a dual-height post, allowing comfortable use for both car and lorry drivers.
The system is connected to four video handsets distributed around the building via the client’s internal network. Staff can see and speak with visitors directly from their handset, and whoever is nearest can respond — ensuring no one is left waiting at the gate.

Groundworks and Vehicle Detection
ADP carried out all the groundworks on site, including the installation of a ground loop for automatic vehicle exit. The ground loop detects when a vehicle approaches from inside the site and triggers the gates to open automatically — providing a smooth, hands-free exit without the need for additional keypads or remote controls.

Safety and Compliance
Safety is a critical consideration with any automated gate installation. To ensure full compliance with current safety standards, we installed safety edges on the gates along with a flashing beacon. The safety edges detect any obstruction during gate movement, immediately stopping or reversing the gates to prevent injury or damage. The flashing beacon provides a clear visual warning to pedestrians and vehicles whenever the gates are in motion.
The Result
The finished installation gives the client complete control over who enters the site, with the convenience of automatic exit for vehicles leaving the premises. The Paxton intercom system, connected across four internal video handsets, ensures that visitors are always greeted promptly — while the CAME automation provides smooth, reliable gate operation day after day.
By handling every aspect of the project in-house — from groundworks and cabling to automation, intercom installation, and safety compliance — ADP delivered a fully integrated solution with a single point of contact throughout.
